Healthy Youth PA
Mentoring Program
Healthy Youth PA is a monitoring program that utilizes the 40 Development Assets to provide youth between 9-14 with the life skills and protective factors necessary to make healthy choices.
We strive to implement strategies to build protective factors to promote an optimal transition of youth from middle childhood to adolescence. Establishing these protective factors will assist youth in transitioning to a healthy, productive and connected young adulthood.
The Family Health Council of Central PA, in partnership with the Camp Curtin YMCA, has developed an innovative and comprehensive abstinence program which:
- creates and expands opportunities for youth in order to promote optimal transition into healthy adulthood
- promotes and provides opportunities for the development of positive mentor and other adult relationships with adolescents
- enhances parenting and relationship skills for parents, guardians and caregivers of youth
- assists youth in developing positive self-esteem and social competence and increases the protective factors available to youth.
In just one year, the Healthy Youth PA mentoring program helped 120 high-risk youth in the city of Harrisburg.
